Secondary History and Social Sciences Teacher

About the role

Teach social studies classes that help students grow into capable, responsible citizens. Plan lessons, assess learning and manage the classroom in line with district and state standards.

What you will do

• Plan and teach social studies lessons that use technology to build subject skills
• Use writing as a way for students to learn and to show what they know
• Check student progress often and adjust teaching to fit their needs
• Combine district curriculum with historical thinking in daily lesson plans
• Keep classroom order following the division's student behavior rules
• Supervise students outside class, including before and after school and at activities

What they look for

• Knowledge of teaching concepts, principles and methods
• General familiarity with the curriculum for the assigned classes
• Ability to set instructional goals, design lessons and assess learning
• Strong spoken and written communication skills
• Skill in decision making, problem analysis and conflict resolution
• Ability to build good interpersonal relationships
