In one line

Field engineering role for a team building data centers with outside developers; you spend most of your time on active sites, with overnight travel between them.

About the role

Compute depends on a growing set of data centers delivered with development partners, and this role is the team's technical judgment on site, catching problems early and pushing each one to closure.

What you will do

  • Walk installed work against the approved design and decide whether it meets it
  • Be the first call when field conditions and drawings disagree, settling what you can
  • Keep one prioritized list of open engineering issues per site, each with an owner and a date
  • Trace equipment, installation or test failures to their cause and check other sites for the same risk

What they look for

  • Examples of getting contractors or vendors who did not report to you to change course
  • Comfort holding a position under pressure and backing it with evidence

A typical week

  • On site more than half the time, often traveling overnight across several projects
  • Remote from home base for the rest of the week
  • Following up in person on open issues and escalating stuck ones early
  • Checking interfaces between power, cooling, controls and structure before testing
