In one line

Hands-on support engineering for an internal compute platform, helping developers debug Kubernetes, containers and Linux problems; remote with Pacific hours.

About the role

Internal developers hit walls with scheduling, networking and container builds, and this role is the engineering line they call. Work sits at the low level, where a fix often needs real system knowledge.

What you will do

  • Be the first engineering contact for Kubernetes and container issues raised by internal developers
  • Trace faults across workloads, scheduling, services, networking and RBAC in Kubernetes
  • Debug Docker images, builds and runtime problems, plus Linux servers, systemd and resource limits
  • Dig into TCP/IP, DNS, routing and firewall issues using tcpdump, ss, strace, dig and journalctl
  • Write tickets, incident summaries, runbooks and knowledge base articles, and join postmortems

What they look for

  • Solid Linux fundamentals: processes, services, filesystems and kernel basics
  • Strong Linux networking knowledge covering TCP/IP, routing, DNS, load balancers and firewalls
  • Hands-on Kubernetes work, ideally beyond managed cloud offerings
  • Production support experience on large systems
  • Python scripting, Git fluency and comfort reading developer code and pull requests

Nice to have

  • Experience with private or internal cloud Kubernetes setups
  • Very clear written and spoken English

A typical week

  • Answer developer questions in Slack, community forums and the ticketing system
  • Onboard new teams to the compute platform with close, hands-on help
  • Escalate platform bugs to SRE and platform teams and follow up on fixes
  • Turn recurring support trends into structured feedback and better tooling
