Auditing & Education Consultant, IP facility or IP/OP

About the role

Client coders need an outside check on how they assign ICD-10, CPT and HCPCS codes, and the audit findings become training material. Accuracy and clear references matter more than volume alone.

What you will do

• Review inpatient records concurrently or retrospectively to validate coded data against official guidelines
• Find root causes behind coding errors and prepare summary reports with specific references
• Run second-level process reviews to check compliance and correct code assignment
• Research and answer questions on compliance, coding and denials
• Deliver coding education to clients based on audit findings

What they look for

• Extensive inpatient facility auditing experience, or a mix of inpatient and outpatient facility work
• Certification such as CCS, RHIT or RHIA
• Knowledge of AHA, CMS, AHIMA and Coding Clinic guidance for ICD-10
• Ability to keep audit accuracy at or above 95 percent and meet record-type productivity standards
• Care with patient and client confidentiality under ethical coding standards
