Audit findings feed back into training for coders and clinicians, so the work shapes how documentation is done across internal teams and outside vendors.

At a glance

What you will do

• Run inter-rater quality audits of medical records coded internally and by vendors.
• Check that ICD codes sent to CMS for risk adjustment are accurate and backed by documentation.
• Audit processes against internal policy, CMS rules and OIG guidance.
• Coach staff on ICD coding and flag documentation gaps found in audits.

What they look for

• CPC or CCS-P certification.
• At least 3 years of recent medical record review, diagnosis coding or auditing work.
• Completed AAPC or AHIMA training for a core credential, with matching work history.
• Clear written and spoken explanations for audiences with different coding knowledge.

Nice to have

• CRC certification within the first six months.
