Engineering Manager, Member Experience

About the role

Lead a small engineering team that builds member-facing systems, from early prototypes through production, while also writing code yourself. You set priorities, quality standards and delivery pace for the group.

What you will do

• Run the team's planning rituals, including shaping iterations, ordering work, refining the backlog and estimating effort
• Take responsibility for delivery speed and explain changes to it without sacrificing quality
• Write production code each sprint, kept off the critical path, using the same AI-assisted workflows as the team
• Work with a product counterpart to balance scope, cost and timing, and defend the team's boundaries
• Set the quality and operational bar, including maintenance and on-call duties for what the team ships
• Support the growth and development of the engineers in the team

• Still writes code and wants to keep doing so in production
• Product-minded engineering leader with strong opinions about the product owned
• Technically respected without needing to be the strongest coder on the team
• Has hands-on views on where AI-assisted development helps and where it causes rework
