Safety Analysis Engineer

About the role

Support the safety case for a novel used nuclear fuel recycling plant. The role covers hazard identification, safety controls and several safety programmes.

What you will do

• Prepare and keep current safety basis paperwork that meets Nuclear Regulatory Commission rules and guidance
• Contribute to integrated safety analysis, criticality evaluations, fire hazard studies and natural phenomena assessments
• Spot and assess hazards from radiation, criticality, chemicals, fire and natural events
• Study accident sequences with inductive and deductive techniques
• Run deterministic calculations of source term, dose and consequence severity
• Estimate event likelihood through qualitative and semi-quantitative methods such as layers of protection analysis

What they look for

• Bachelor's degree in chemical, mechanical or nuclear engineering or a closely related field
• Three to five years working in nuclear safety, process safety or another high hazard setting
• Familiarity with HAZOP and FMEA process hazard analysis methods
• Strong technical writing in clear active voice and good verbal communication
• Genuine enthusiasm for clean energy and advanced fission
• Comfortable in a fast moving startup where you learn quickly and work without much direction

Nice to have

• Master's or doctoral degree
• Safety basis work at an NRC licensed fuel cycle facility
• Consequence severity analysis with RADTRAD, MELCOR, MACCS, ARCON or PAVAN
• Event tree and fault tree analysis
