Senior DRG Coding Educator

About the role

The role serves as a coding subject matter expert, training staff and refining processes so clinical documentation supports accurate and complete DRG assignment.

What you will do

• Lead onboarding, mentoring and training of new clinical documentation specialists
• Design tailored education for coders, providers, nursing and other audiences
• Recommend documentation improvements and queries that capture care and service intensity
• Educate teams on review functions, compliance and standard operating procedures
• Help develop and maintain program policies and keep current on coding guidance
• Ensure accuracy of assigned codes by following coding rules and clinics

What they look for

• Expertise in DRG assignment, severity of illness, risk of mortality and case mix index
• Understanding of complications, comorbidities and how procedures affect the final DRG
• Knowledge of coding guidelines, coding clinics and regulatory documentation standards
• Ability to teach and advise clinicians, directors and senior hospital leaders
• Skill in drafting and revising program policies and procedures
