Software Developer

About the role

Join a team building conversational AI and interactive visualization tools that help scientists explore complex biological data. The role offers ownership of production software at the meeting point of AI, research and data visualization.

What you will do

• Build and maintain web software for discovering and visualizing biomedical data.
• Take part in the full development lifecycle across several projects at once.
• Find, triage and fix bugs and performance issues using browser developer tools.
• Write tests and documentation and keep open-source code reliable.
• Create utilities for metadata handling and genomic, single-cell and bioimaging file formats.
• Package workflows in containers and deploy and monitor cloud services for lab portals.

What they look for

• One to three years of professional software development experience.
• At least two years of post-secondary education or comparable work experience.
• Proficiency in JavaScript or TypeScript, Python, shell scripting and frameworks such as React or Vue.
• Familiarity with REST or GraphQL APIs, CSS and component-based design.
• Experience with automated testing, version control and collaborative workflows.
• Strong problem-solving and communication abilities.

Nice to have

• Knowledge of visualization libraries such as Vitessce, Gosling or D3.js.
• Familiarity with WebGL or WebGPU and emerging visualization trends.
• Exposure to LLMs, natural-language interfaces and AI development tools.
• Background in bioinformatics formats, molecular biology or genomics data.
