Sr Software Engineer

About the role

A senior backend role on a lending team, owning services that support credit products from risk decisions through the whole loan lifecycle. The work directly affects financial outcomes for many customers.

What you will do

• Build and design backend services covering credit origination, analysis, disbursement and repayment
• Shape risk-aware system design by modelling edge cases, failure modes and protective controls
• Write production Java and Spring services on AWS with strong observability, resilience and security
• Take part in architecture reviews, RFCs and incident retrospectives and help steer technical choices
• Work with product, data and risk teams to turn complex requirements into maintainable software
• Guide peers through code reviews and technical discussion, raising standards without gatekeeping

What they look for

• Solid backend engineering fundamentals with hands-on Java and Spring experience, including Boot, MVC, Security and Data
• Practical AWS experience designing and running distributed cloud services, not only deploying them
• A structured approach to problem analysis that weighs tradeoffs and downstream risk
• Ability to work autonomously, drive tasks to completion and raise blockers early
• Clear communication skills, able to explain technical positions to engineers, product managers or risk analysts
• Background in systems where reliability and security come first, such as finance, payments or regulated fields

Nice to have

• Experience with credit, lending or financial products
• Familiarity with event-driven architectures such as Kafka
