Staff Backend Engineer, Core DevOps

About the role

A senior backend role providing technical leadership across teams, modernising a large monolith into modular systems and setting engineering standards for quality, security and reliability.

What you will do

• Lead design and delivery of backend work that spans multiple teams and clear systemic blockers
• Drive modular architecture for services, data and platforms while avoiding fragmentation and service sprawl
• Set standards for APIs, contracts, compatibility, schema evolution, testing, security, performance and observability
• Establish Go service patterns and Kubernetes practices, and guide Rust adoption where it fits
• Join on-call and incident response, act as escalation point and turn incident lessons into improvements

What they look for

• Experience leading complex backend architecture and making product trade-offs
• Ability to influence technical direction without formal authority
• Strong background in Go services and Kubernetes operations
• Knowledge of API design, schema evolution, testing and observability practices
• Comfort working independently and communicating decisions clearly in writing
• Willingness to use AI tools as part of daily workflows
