Aircraft Mechanic 3/4

About the role

Suited to someone with years of hands-on airframes and sheet metal work who can read engineering drawings and hold tight tolerances. The role supports flight line and depot modifications for a customer program.

At a glance

What you will do

• Install small detail parts including shims, brackets, doublers, patches and fastener bushings
• Repair metallic and composite damage from operations and corrosion, including composite bonding work
• Read engineering drawings, technical manuals and repair manuals, including symbols and general notes
• Use precision instruments such as micrometers, calipers and scales, plus drills, shears and riveters

What they look for

• High school diploma or GED plus at least 4 years of airframes or sheet metal experience for level 3
• At least 6 years of airframes or sheet metal experience for level 4
• At least one year of recent work completed on aircraft
• Familiarity with aluminum, steel, titanium, plastic and advanced composites
• Ability to obtain and hold a Secret clearance

A typical week

• Work as part of a team doing depot-level modifications or flight line support at customer sites
• Assist other technical disciplines when team leads or management ask
• Verify low-observable material condition and work out repair time and materials
• Set up and run material testers and mixers as needed
• Travel about 10 percent of the time
