Auto and General Liability Claims Specialist

About the role

The team works on claims that carry serious exposure and frequently end up in court, so the job is about getting coverage calls right and keeping litigation under control. Good work means sound reserves, clear written positions and cases that close well.

At a glance

What you will do

• Investigate each claim and weigh the facts as they come in
• Decide coverage and put the position in writing to insureds and other parties
• Set expense and indemnity reserves within your authority and review them regularly
• Take cases above your authority to management for approval
• Build and carry out plans to resolve claims well
• Manage litigation and outside counsel, including plans, budgets and bill review

What they look for

• A bachelor's degree is preferred and a law degree is a plus
• Disciplined and focused on results
• Strong analysis and organisation
• Clear writing and speaking, plus good negotiation and technical claim skills
• Knowledge of coverage and tort law
