Senior Cloud Database Administrator (MySQL & AWS RDS/Aurora)

About the role

Join a sprint based database reliability team that runs MySQL on AWS, turning database operations into an automated, self service platform while handling complex production issues.

What you will do

• Administer and tune MySQL and InnoDB on RDS and Aurora, covering provisioning, scaling, patching and upgrades
• Tune performance through execution plans, query and index optimisation and InnoDB settings
• Design backup, restore, point in time recovery and disaster recovery meeting set targets
• Support high availability with Aurora clusters, Multi AZ, read replicas and failover
• Automate database operations and build self service tooling, and take part in on call response

What they look for

• Ten or more years in database administration, engineering or reliability
• Deep MySQL and InnoDB internals knowledge, including transactions, locking and crash recovery
• Hands on administration of MySQL on AWS RDS or Aurora MySQL
• Proven performance tuning, query optimisation and troubleshooting skills
• Scripting and automation with Python, Bash, SQL or AWS CLI
• Understanding of AWS security such as IAM, encryption and access controls, plus Agile teamwork

Nice to have

• Terraform or CloudFormation
• AWS Lambda, Systems Manager or EventBridge
• Experience in regulated environments or AWS cost optimisation
