Senior Mechanical Design Engineer, SolidWorks Specialist

About the role

A senior design role creating manufacturable mechanical and structural solutions for heavy industrial clients, working from concept and site data through to documented, site-ready designs.

What you will do

• Develop complete 3D models and equipment layouts from requirements, sketches and site information
• Design large assemblies, weldments, structural frames, sheet metal parts and pipework integrations
• Produce fabrication drawing packages, bills of materials, cut lists, tolerances and revision controls
• Account for heavy loads, vibration, fatigue, corrosion, exposure and maintainability in designs
• Create support frames, mountings, access platforms, skids, guards and structural modifications
• Take part in cross-functional design reviews to refine concepts for safety and efficiency

What they look for

• Five to ten or more years of mechanical design experience in heavy industrial sectors
• Expert SolidWorks skills including parametric modeling, design tables, weldments, sheet metal and large assemblies
• Practical understanding of how heavy steel equipment is fabricated, welded, machined and installed
• Excellent written and spoken English for collaboration with international teams

Nice to have

• Experience with SolidWorks Simulation for structural analysis of steel structures
• Knowledge of Australian Standards or work with Australian engineering firms
• Background designing plant and equipment
