Senior ML Backend Engineer, Search and Recommendations

About the role

Own the online systems behind search, retrieval and recommendation serving, keeping results fast, fresh and reliable while shipping changes through experiments.

What you will do

• Build and operate query and recommendation serving, including retrieval, score fusion, filtering and caching
• Build experiment plumbing such as shadow traffic, A/B assignment, guardrail metrics and rollback
• Run zero-downtime reindexing of large document collections and log features for ranking training

What they look for

• Five or more years building backend or platform systems in production
• Two or more years operating a production search engine such as Elasticsearch, OpenSearch, Solr, Typesense or Vespa
• Experience with low-latency services under real traffic and explaining latency breakdowns
• Streaming ingestion experience with Kafka, Debezium or similar change-data-capture and idempotent backfills
• Strong Python and comfort shipping in TypeScript
• Experience shipping through A/B tests and staged rollouts
