Software Engineer, Distributed Systems (Core)

About the role

Engineers on this team build and scale the engine that moves large volumes of customer data between warehouses and destinations. The role carries high ownership, from project delivery to direct work with customers on their toughest scaling problems.

What you will do

• Optimise every stage of the sync pipeline so large transfers to ad platforms finish faster
• Grow batch syncing into real-time streaming from webhooks, queues and similar sources
• Locate scaling and reliability limits, then design for the next order of magnitude
• Advance a low-latency caching API over data warehouses that answers in under 30ms at millions of queries per second
• Add new regions to a multi-cloud backend so customers meet data residency rules

What they look for

• Seven or more years in software engineering with substantial distributed systems depth
• Staff-level scope and a record of rapid promotion at fast-growing startups
• Solid grounding in systems design and how large distributed systems behave
• Experience building event collection or streaming services on message queues, Kafka, SQL databases, Kubernetes and Docker
• A record of owning systems through order-of-magnitude growth
• Pure backend focus with strong communication and quick learning

Nice to have

• Experience with data sync engines handling terabytes daily
• Work close to infrastructure, with insight into how Spark, Flink and Kafka are built
• A degree from a top computer science programme

Pay

USD 180,000 to 320,000 per year
