Staff or Senior Staff Software Engineer, AI Systems

About the role

Own the architecture and technical direction of backend systems that bring AI features into a widely used rich text editor. The work spans LLM integrations, APIs and external services, with a focus on reliable, scalable products.

What you will do

• Set the architecture and technical direction for AI-powered systems, from first exploration through production.
• Make design choices covering APIs, service boundaries, reliability, performance, security and cost.
• Convert complex product ideas into experiments, prototypes and shippable solutions.
• Build dependable LLM integrations and define how AI features are tested, evaluated, monitored and improved.
• Write and review code, tackle hard technical problems and mentor other engineers.

What they look for

• A track record of designing and delivering complex production systems at staff, tech lead or similar level.
• Hands-on strength in TypeScript, Node.js, software architecture and distributed systems.
• Experience shipping LLM or AI features in production, including evaluation, observability and reliability.
• Sound architectural judgment that balances simplicity, scalability and long-term maintainability.
• End-to-end ownership, taking ambiguous problems through to successful delivery.
• Ability to influence technical decisions and mentor engineers across teams without formal authority.

Nice to have

• Work with multiple LLM providers, AI evaluation frameworks, tracing or experimentation.
• Familiarity with AWS, infrastructure as code and event-driven architectures.
• Experience creating shared libraries, frameworks or internal platforms.
