Tax Expert (CPA / EA)

About the role

A tax specialist joins an engineering team to review returns, surface edge cases and turn real tax workflows into product improvements. The work sits at the intersection of tax, technology and product rather than in a traditional accounting firm.

What you will do

• Prepare and review individual income tax returns
• Identify complex tax scenarios and edge cases that could break the product
• Check engine output against established professional tax software and flag discrepancies
• Advise engineers on tax rules and expected outcomes
• Contribute tax preparation experience to product roadmap and UX decisions

What they look for

• Certified Public Accountant with a tax-focused career, or an experienced Enrolled Agent
• At least six years preparing individual returns with professional tax software across multiple full tax seasons
• Experience reviewing returns, not only preparing them
• Solid grasp of U.S. federal individual income tax
• Comfort in a small, early-stage startup setting

Nice to have

• Knowledge of U.S. federal tax law
• Skill in spotting edge cases
• Familiarity with Drake tax software
