Backend Engineer (Python)

About the role

Build the Python services behind an AI voice agent that checks in on patients between visits and routes their needs to care teams. The role sits on a small engineering team and owns features from design to deployment.

What you will do

• Extend APIs, data models and background workflows for enrolment, call scheduling, preferences and follow-up
• Integrate the voice agent with clinical records so conversations draw on patient history and requests reach the right team
• Support tasks such as booking appointments and requesting refills, with clear handoffs and follow-up visibility
• Give the voice agent better access to context and tools for more personalised, multilingual conversations
• Keep workflows reliable when calls drop, webhooks repeat or external services fail
• Write tests, review code, debug production issues and ship compatible changes across deployed services

What they look for

• Experience shipping and maintaining backend services in production, with ownership valued over years
• Experience integrating third-party APIs and using background jobs or queues with timeouts, retries and partial failures
• Sound engineering habits such as readable code and useful automated tests
