Claims Manager, Commercial Auto Liability

About the role

A working manager leads the day to day claims function for commercial auto liability, coaching in house adjusters and overseeing a third party administrator. The aim is to settle claims early and fairly and avoid litigation where possible.

What you will do

• Set expectations for the third party administrator, review files and reserves and track performance
• Coach adjusters on investigation, communication and negotiation across injury, property damage and recovery claims
• Personally negotiate high exposure bodily injury claims with claimants and plaintiff counsel
• Oversee accident investigations, evidence preservation and early reserving, including severe and fatal losses
• Refine claims standards for contact, investigation, authority, settlement and litigation avoidance
• Manage defense counsel, independent adjusters and experts, including budgets and billing, and attend mediations and trials

What they look for

• Seven or more years in commercial auto liability claims, with substantial third party bodily injury work
• Trucking or transportation background with knowledge of fleet operations and FMCSA rules
• Record of settling bodily injury claims before suit through direct negotiation
• Litigation management skills covering counsel strategy, budgets and settlement
• Knowledge of state claims handling rules and multi state compliance, plus an active adjuster license or ability to obtain one within 60 days
