People Operations and Payroll Manager

About the role

Trusted advisor role covering employee relations, compliance and payroll for a mission serving people in crisis, with room to grow influence over time.

What you will do

• Coach managers through attendance, performance and improvement plan conversations
• Keep policies current, manage workers compensation and unemployment claims, and run drug and alcohol testing
• Process bi-weekly and bonus payroll, including garnishments, with audits and checks
• Answer employee questions on HR, payroll and routine benefits
• Maintain the HRIS, personnel and benefit files, and benefits updates
• Support onboarding, terminations, exit interviews and offboarding, and manage HR vendors

What they look for

• Three to five years of progressive HR operations, payroll and employee relations experience
• Proficiency with Microsoft 365

Nice to have

• Bachelor's degree in HR, business or a related field
• HR or payroll certification such as PHR, SHRM-CP or CPP
• Nonprofit or mission-driven experience
