Platform Architect and Backend Lead

About the role

Build a multi-tenant IoT platform from scratch, combining system architecture with hands-on backend development and interim cloud infrastructure ownership in a fast-moving early-stage setting.

What you will do

• Design the end-to-end architecture from device connectivity and protocol ingestion through stream processing, storage, APIs and real-time de
• Define the multi-tenant data model with strict isolation, tenant-scoped tokens and row-level security
• Build core services including device management, telemetry ingestion, rule engine, alerting, OTA updates and API gateway
• Develop versioned REST and GraphQL APIs plus WebSocket and SSE endpoints for live telemetry
• Provision AWS environments with Terraform, configure IoT Core, CI/CD pipelines and monitoring
• Write unit, integration and load tests and own service reliability, SLOs and incident response

What they look for

• Seven to twelve years in software or systems engineering, with at least four years on IoT platform backends or connected products
• Deep MQTT knowledge covering versions 3.1 and 5.0 and topic hierarchies
• Experience with device authentication at scale, time-series ingestion and multi-tenant isolation
• Ability to make and document architectural decisions autonomously
• Disciplined remote working, flagging risks early
