Software Engineer, Automation and Control

About the role

Design, build and maintain automation and control systems for bioreactor and bioprocessing equipment. The work spans cloud software down to low-level device control for physical processes that run for days.

What you will do

• Tune and troubleshoot control loops, diagnosing oscillation, lag, overshoot and instability
• Improve automation reliability with monitoring, logging, fault detection and recovery
• Evolve the hardware interface so higher-level automation and AI can safely drive equipment
• Develop and optimize feedback control systems, including PID loops, for stability and robustness
• Work with mechanical, electrical, process and software engineers to turn requirements into control implementations

What they look for

• 4 or more years of industry experience, including at least 2 years developing software
• Working knowledge of sensors, actuators and data acquisition, including how they fail
• Strong grasp of classical control theory, especially PID, feedback loops, stability and disturbance rejection
• Ability to work closely with scientists and translate process needs into control logic
• Commitment to technical rigor: testing assumptions and validating behavior against data
