Backend Engineer (PHP/Symfony), Mid or Senior

About the role

Build and maintain backend features for a live business messaging platform used by thousands of companies. The role covers APIs, integrations and performance work.

What you will do

• Develop backend features, REST APIs and connections to third-party services
• Refactor existing PHP and Symfony code so it is easier to maintain and extend
• Diagnose performance problems and tune database queries
• Improve background jobs, message processing and error handling
• Write testable code and take part in code reviews
• Collaborate with engineers, QA, DevOps and product managers on reliable delivery

What they look for

• Strong production experience with PHP and Symfony
• Experience building REST APIs and integrating external services
• Good knowledge of OOP, application design and clean coding
• Ability to investigate issues, read existing code and find practical fixes
• Good English plus either Estonian or Russian

Nice to have

• High-load systems and performance tuning
• Message queues and asynchronous processing
• Optimizing SQL and handling large databases
• Automated testing with Codeception or PHPUnit
