Backend Engineer

About the role

You would be the second technical hire building a consumer health platform that combines genomic, wearable, lab and medical record data. The work covers APIs, data pipelines, database models and cloud infrastructure.

What you will do

• Build and maintain RESTful APIs with Node.js, TypeScript and Fastify
• Create reliable pipelines that parse and transform large, messy genomic inputs
• Set up AWS infrastructure as code and secure storage for sensitive health data
• Add authentication, role-based access control and encryption for health data

What they look for

• Five or more years of backend engineering, including early-stage systems built from scratch
• Production experience with Node.js and TypeScript REST APIs
• Track record building pipelines for large, inconsistent data with recovery and reproducibility
• AWS deployment and infrastructure experience
• Authentication and authorization work with Cognito, Auth0 or OAuth

Nice to have

• Bioinformatics or genomic data processing background
• Infrastructure as code with AWS CDK or CloudFormation
• Experience with the Fastify framework
• Healthcare or regulated industry experience
