Backend Platform Engineer

About the role

Join a small senior engineering group behind a voice activated sticker printer for children. You will take full ownership of the backend systems that turn a spoken idea into a printed sticker, hardening and scaling them for worldwide growth.

What you will do

• Take charge of the API and the job queues that process every sticker request
• Keep the real time device connection layer dependable, working alongside the firmware engineer
• Extend autoscaling to absorb holiday traffic peaks and a growing device fleet, coordinating with the ML serving engineer on GPU inference
• Improve observability through metrics, logs, tracing and alerts that surface problems early
• Build cost tracking that shows the expense of each request, model and service
• Handle release engineering for server side services, covering safe deploys, database migrations and quick rollback

What they look for

• Elixir experience or a genuine willingness to learn it
• A track record of owning production infrastructure end to end, beyond writing code that runs on it
• Experience scaling a queue driven or real time system through a tenfold rise in traffic
• Comfort with being paged for systems you own and a drive to make those pages rarer
