What you will do
- Run and tune MySQL and InnoDB on RDS and Aurora, covering setup, scaling, patching, version upgrades and retirement
- Diagnose production problems such as slow queries, replication delay, locking, deadlocks and resource contention
- Improve performance via execution plan review, query and index tuning, and InnoDB settings
- Own backup, restore, point in time recovery and disaster recovery plans that satisfy set RTOs and RPOs
- Keep services highly available with Aurora clusters, Multi AZ setups, read replicas and automatic failover
What they look for
- Ten or more years in database administration, engineering or reliability work
- Deep practical MySQL knowledge including InnoDB internals such as transactions, locking, buffer pool, logs and crash recovery
- Hands on experience running MySQL on AWS RDS or Aurora MySQL
- Proven ability to tune performance, optimize queries and troubleshoot
- Experience with backups, restores, point in time recovery, disaster recovery and high availability setups
- Scripting and automation skills plus familiarity with AWS security controls like IAM and encryption
