Backend Engineer

About the role

Join as the second technical hire to build the backend of a new consumer health platform that combines genomic, wearable, lab and health record data. Work closely with the frontend lead and company leadership, starting on contract and moving to full time.

What you will do

• Design and maintain RESTful APIs with Node.js, TypeScript and Fastify
• Create reproducible, recoverable pipelines for large and messy genomic inputs
• Build AWS infrastructure as code and secure storage for sensitive health data
• Add authentication, authorization, role based access and encryption

What they look for

• Five or more years in backend engineering, including building systems from scratch at an early stage startup
• Hands on Node.js and TypeScript experience delivering production REST APIs
• Track record building pipelines for large, inconsistent data with recovery and reproducibility
• AWS deployment and infrastructure experience
• English at C1 or above for daily collaboration

Nice to have

• Bioinformatics or genomic data processing background
• AWS CDK or CloudFormation experience
• Familiarity with Fastify
• Healthcare or regulated industry experience
