Backend Engineer

About the role

Second technical hire building the backend of a consumer platform that combines genomic, wearable, lab and health record data. Works closely with the frontend lead and firm leadership.

What you will do

• Design and maintain RESTful APIs with Node.js, TypeScript and Fastify
• Implement authentication and authorization, for example with AWS Cognito
• Build reproducible, recoverable pipelines for large and inconsistent genomic inputs
• Architect AWS infrastructure as code and set up secure storage for sensitive data

What they look for

• Five or more years of backend engineering, including building systems from scratch at an early-stage startup
• Production experience with Node.js and TypeScript RESTful APIs
• Experience building pipelines for large, inconsistent data with reproducibility and failure recovery
• AWS deployment and infrastructure experience
• Authentication and authorization work with Cognito, Auth0 or OAuth

Nice to have

• Bioinformatics or genomic data processing background
• AWS CDK or CloudFormation experience
• Fastify framework experience
• Healthcare or regulated-industry experience
