A remote paralegal role supporting attorneys at a US law firm on criminal defense cases, from research and drafting to trial preparation and case management.
What you will do
- Help attorneys prepare for trial by organizing case files and carrying out legal research
- Draft pleadings, motions and client correspondence on criminal defense matters
- Review and summarize police reports, witness statements and other evidence
- Keep a well-organized case management system so documents are filed and easy to find
- Liaise with clients, witnesses and experts to keep cases moving
- Coordinate exhibits and materials for trial and handle billing and admin tasks as needed
What they look for
- An associate degree or comparable experience in a legal setting
- Two to three years as a paralegal, ideally in criminal defense
- Solid grasp of criminal law and related legal principles
- Excellent written and verbal communication
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and legal research tools
- Fluency in English
Nice to have
- Familiarity with US criminal law at state and federal level
- At least one year in a law office or legal environment
- Experience with CLIO Manage software
- Experience with case management software
