Member of Technical Staff, Legal Research

About the role

A full-time role for legal experts to shape how legal AI systems are evaluated and benchmarked, working alongside researchers and engineers on applied legal research.

What you will do

• Own and design evaluation frameworks for AI systems used in legal work
• Build benchmark suites, scoring methods and quality rubrics for legal tasks
• Set research protocols and consistent standards for judging legal reasoning
• Carry out applied research on statutory interpretation and legal analysis
• Create realistic datasets, case studies and benchmark environments
• Assess model outputs for reliability, weak reasoning and recurring errors

What they look for

• An advanced law degree such as JD, LLM, SJD or a law PhD
• Deep knowledge of at least one substantive area of law
• Track record in legal research, analysis or policy work
• Grasp of legal reasoning and research methods
• Ability to turn legal expertise into structured evaluation criteria
• Strong analytical and written communication skills

Nice to have

• Familiarity with legal technology or AI assisted legal workflows
• Experience in legal benchmarking or knowledge management
• Published legal scholarship or policy research
• Contributions to legal standards or research frameworks

Pay

USD 400,000 to 800,000 per year
